Food labels carry a lot of information. As well as nutritional and place of origin information, labels increasingly include information about the way food was produced. Food producers and manufacturers are responding to consumer interest in ‘ethical’ food by telling the ‘story’ of the food on the label.

We are interested in how these stories are being told, what information is being communicated through the label and what assumptions are being made about the consumer’s understanding of food production.

The purpose of this blog is to provide an online archive of the labels that we find interesting. In particular we are interested in labels that address ethical issues in food production such as animal welfare, the use of technology in food production and environmental sustainability.

We would welcome contributions to this blog. If you have images of food labels that you are willing to share please contact us. A link to our contact details is provided in the ‘About’ section.
